Albondón
is in the province of Granada and is just
8 km (5 miles) from the Mediterranean, as the crow flies,
although the road distance is 17 km (11 miles).
It is about 900 metres (2925 ft) above sea level.
It lies on the southern slopes of the Contraviesa
mountains, which run parallel to Sierra Nevada and prevent
the cold northerly winds from reaching the village, and so the climate
is mild and relatively warm in winter, with little rainfall while,
because of its altitude, Albondón remains
cool and healthy during the summer.
The municipality extends over an area of 3581
hectares, and is bounded to the north by Torvizcon, Cadiar
and Murtas , and to the east and south by Albuñol and Sorvilán.
