The agricultural nature of the region, together with the fishing industry, are reflected in the abundant and excellent local gastronomy, featuring typical dishes such as migas, dried fish, kid goat in garlic, sardines, high quality vegetables and pork sausages, ham and Moorish-style sweetmeats.

The local wine is excellent, balance and light, with a fruity flavour that is ideal to accompany meats and sausages.

There is an abundant local production of fruits and vegetables, and products such as marrows, green beans, peppers, tender peas and cherry tomatoes are highly valued.

Thanks to the mild subtropical climate, almonds and grapes flourish, and the local wine known as Cerro del Gato is widely appreciated. ish known simply as plato alpujarreño, comprising potatoes, eggs, sausage and black pudding.
